          1. I have been thinking about what to say about github being acquired all weekend. I think I have to start this thread with this gif. I sent this to some SREs at GitHub the day they had the _largest_ ever DDoS attack perpetrated against them.

          I think that's because in this special little git community, even thought github, gitlab, and Bitbucket all compete, we also know how special this community is. And are acutely aware of the shoulders of giants we are standing on.

        Git was one of the most influential developments in our field...possibly of all time. And it’s hard to overstate the impact GitHub has had in that space. GitHub did two significant things. Introduce the world to git at scale...

      ...and leveraged git to be the true collaboration platform it was always meant to be. That meant that the entire open source world we know today could find a home. The second gave open source a place to collaborate. SourceForge tried and failed. GitHub got it just right.

    Basically...I don't think many of us would be where we are. I don't think we would have seen the full power of what we've been able to accomplish with software if it wasn't for GitHub's vision.

      And I'm extremely happy for them & for all my friends who work or have worked there. And even though I'm biased, and I'm excited about the #movingtogitlab movement, I also couldn't be more excited for GitHub. Well deserved celebration for sure.
